Data Retention Policy

This policy describes how Budget Parent determines retention periods and handles information after disconnection or account deletion.

Effective July 29, 2026 · Last updated July 29, 2026

Retention principles

Budget Parent keeps personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed to provide the service, protect users, meet legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention is based on the type, sensitivity, purpose, and legal requirements of the information.

Active accounts

Account, household, budget, transaction, connected-account, goal, and debt information is generally retained while your account remains active so the service can provide historical and current budgeting features.

Disconnected institutions

Disconnecting a financial institution stops new account data from being requested after the disconnection is processed. Previously imported financial information may remain until the related data or account is deleted, unless retention is required for security, dispute, or legal reasons.

Account deletion

Deletion requests are currently reviewed and handled individually. After verifying the requester and the scope, Budget Parent will delete or de-identify personal information that is no longer required for a legitimate business or legal purpose. Automated deletion is not yet available. Data may remain temporarily in encrypted backups or provider recovery systems until those systems cycle it out under their standard schedules.

Some limited records may be retained when required for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, security, legal claims, or compliance obligations. Retained records remain protected and are used only for those purposes.

Operational records

  • Security, authentication, and diagnostic records are kept only as long as reasonably needed to investigate abuse, maintain reliability, and meet legal obligations.
  • Billing and transaction records may be retained for the period required by tax, accounting, chargeback, and payment laws.
  • Support communications are retained while needed to resolve the request and maintain an appropriate service history.
  • De-identified or aggregated information that cannot reasonably identify a person may be retained longer for analytics and service improvement.

Review and requests

The retention schedule will be reviewed periodically and when material services or legal requirements change. To request deletion or ask about retention, contact Ali Tooson, CEO, at alitooson@gmail.com. We may verify your identity before acting on a request.
